HISTORY
Antalya was first inhabited 50.000 years ago. The first people are believed to be Hitites from Caucasus and Mesopotamia and their reign ended in 7th and 8th centuries by tribes from Trakya, mainly Pamphylia. During 5th and 6th centuries Antalya was under the sovereignty of Byzantium until Seljuks took over the city in 1085. The city changed hands six times between Turks and Byzantines. Antalya came under the rule of he Ottomans in 1391 and remained until World War I. Italian occupation after the war was withdrawn in 1921 after the War of Independence.

Visit the old city, Kaleiçi, for nature, venture to the Olympos mountains. Have fun in the sun at one of the many holiday villages, checking out the late night scene afterwards.
